The Buffalo News has named a muralist and artist with three years of experience as the winners of the 2014 Buffalo Art Prize, which recognizes work of art that can be seen through 3D technology.
“I’ve been working with these artists for more than a decade now, and I have the utmost respect for their craft,” said David Ochoa, the winner of the prize.
“But I am most proud of my mural in front of my house.”
Ochoas artwork was unveiled during a ribbon cutting ceremony in Buffalo this month, and featured a series of 3D images from a video game.
The 3D renderings, which include real-time renderings of the characters and environments, helped the muralist create a dynamic, interactive experience that could be viewed from anywhere in the city.
Ochoes work will be displayed on the exterior of a warehouse near the site of the proposed site of Buffalo’s new Convention Center, which is scheduled to open in 2021.
He was awarded the Buffalo Art Award in recognition of his work, and will also receive a certificate of appreciation.
The Buffalo Art Project was created by artist David Ochs and was launched in 2014 by OchoA and his wife, Lauren.
Och was born in Mexico and emigrated to the U.S. at the age of 17, where he began working in the construction industry.
He also started his own business, Och’s Construction, and later went on to launch his own studio.
Ocha is a graduate of the University of Rochester, where his studies included illustration and digital painting.
He received a master’s degree in sculpture from the University School of Art in 2013, and an undergraduate degree in architecture and design from Rutgers University in 2014.
OChs mural, “The Blue Sea,” was commissioned by Och construction company.
He is also the founder of the Buffalo Artists Association, which hosts art fairs for artists and professionals.
In October, Ochos created an interactive installation of his artwork on the back wall of the Uptown Buffalo Business Center.
In January, he unveiled a mural of himself and his family at the University Park location of the Convention Center.
Oechs family has been working on the project for several years.
“The Buffalo Art Museum is an incredibly beautiful place and a home for artists,” Och said in a statement.
“It is a very special time for me to be able to celebrate the incredible work of my family and friends in front the Buffalo Museum.
We look forward to welcoming you to the building.”
