Diego Siqueira, the Argentina coach, said he would never forget his idol and mentor Josep Maria Bartomeu, who died on Thursday.
The Argentine international, who played for the Barcelona and Real Madrid teams, died in his sleep at his home in Buenos Aires.
Simeone, who was also Argentina’s coach, was in Argentina to celebrate his 83rd birthday.
Siqueira is survived by his wife and two daughters, and the club said he will be remembered for his work as a coach.
“My love and admiration of Diego Sirois legacy will always be with me, as always,” the Argentina manager said in a statement.
“I’ll always remember him for the great games he won and for the countless friendships and mutual respect that he made.”
